Sunpower Hot Water Systems originated in 1978 and has progressed to be one of the leading solar water heater manufacturers in the Caribbean. Their products are widely used in domestic and commercial environments throughout the Caribbean.
Since starting work with Sunpower in 2006, C&G International Inc. have constructed a manufacturing strategy to enable an increase in sales, enhance productivity, assure quality and control manufacturing costs.
C&G International have taken a systematic approach to productivity enhancement, this concentrated on production shop floor layout improvements, the construction of a new storeroom for fittings, team based operator training and input and production capacity monitoring and planning. The results have been excellent and include:
- 9.2% increase in shop floor space.
- 20% decrease in the production flow time.
- 17% increase in actual manufacturing output.
Presently C&G International is training Sunpower personnel in materials requirements planning (MRP). This training is being carried out in the environment of real production planning meetings. During these meetings ongoing purchasing, production and sales delivery decisions are made. This training is a forerunner to the implementation of a computer aided MRP package, the evaluation and selection of which is currently being undertaken by C&G International.

To minimize the impact of the rising commodity prices of copper and aluminium C&G International have instigated a Value Engineering exercise within Sunpower. The result of the Value Engineering exercise will be
- The reduction and control of the costs of the high value raw material components made from copper and aluminium.
- An improvement in the quality and functionality of the product.
