Food Safety

Every day numerous people around the world suffer from food poisoning. Many of these people become extremely ill and some die. The main reasons for food poisoning are negligence, poor management in food companies and the failure to implement good hygiene practices. Much food poisoning can be prevented by developing a food safety culture in food manufacturing plants.

As a consequence of the above, there is an increase customer demand for safe food. Consumers, retailers and governments are pushing for safer food production throughout the supply chain. Not only are they pushing but they also want proof that food is produced in a safe way, in accordance with recognized standards and that it will continue to be so.

Food companies must always be aware of the risks associated with their product and process in relation to food poisoning along with specific hazards, which can cause harm to the consumer, associated with their products.

In order to safeguard against the hazards there needs to be a focus on food companies to implement food safe systems, the relevant training, acceptable facility conditions and the facilitation of the implementation of international standards for certification. These have to become the pillars of sustainable development and infrastructural transformation.
